Antarctica Before the Ice

A 3D short film about the frozen continent and what came before. From space, the ice sheet gleams over the South Pole. Then the globe rolls back 200 million years: Antarctica sits at the center of Gondwana while Africa, India, Australia, and South America pull away, on a published plate model. Three illustrated scenes show forests of the seed fern Glossopteris, a Jurassic valley with the dinosaur Cryolophosaurus, and a palm coast 52 million years ago. The ocean opens, the ice comes, and then the ice lifts away to reveal the real bedrock beneath it: mountains, basins, and lakes from NOAA height data. Every line is on screen; a narrated edition with music follows. Personal, creator, and public display licenses. From $25.
